The first SHATRO COUNTER-MESH systems were provided for trial operation at the end of June.
During the systems’ operation, hostile drones using mesh modems were detected within the deployment area at distances ranging from 500 to 1,500 meters. According to Ukrainian Railways, after entering the area covered by the system, the UAVs changed their flight trajectories. This indicates that the system affected the drones’ control links.
“For us, it is extremely important that the effectiveness of our solutions is confirmed directly through real-world operational use. Protecting critical infrastructure against emerging types of threats is currently one of the key areas of electronic warfare technology development,” Unwave said.
As of mid-August, all systems provided by Unwave remain in active use by Ukrainian Railways for their intended purpose.

Unwave’s SHATRO COUNTER-MESH system is designed to counter unmanned aerial vehicles that use mesh networks for command, control, and terminal guidance. It disrupts communication links between a UAV’s mesh modem and other nodes in the network, preventing command transmission and disrupting drone coordination.
The solution can be deployed to protect critical, transport, and industrial infrastructure, as well as mobile platforms, including aircraft, railway rolling stock, and maritime and river vessels. The system can disrupt control links at ranges starting from 1,000 meters, depending on weather conditions, site configuration, and other environmental factors.
